START HERE...
And welcome!
Thank you for checking out my writing! This post is for you if you aren’t sure what exactly this Substack is or where to start. In this introductory post, I give a quick summary of the kind of writing you can expect to find here and where exactly to find it, as well as highlighting a few pieces to check out if you aren’t sure what you want to read.
What you will find on my Substack is fiction, usually short stories, as well as personal essays that are typically brief, contemplative, and lyric. Occasionally, I also muse about the creative life, or the seasons, or a bit of great writing I’ve recently encountered.
I also write an informal series where you can follow along with me on the process of writing a novel. The series can be found at the Work in Progress section.
Here is a short About Page to get acquainted.
Interested in fiction? You can find it all here.
If you’d like some suggestions on where to start, here is a short story about a couple characters who lived hard and loved hard — also happens to be my most engaged-with post to date.
This one is a quick vignette from a medical waiting room as two aging women pass the time together.
Or try this short story written as part of a community writing project on Substack.
Looking for creative nonfiction and personal essays? Look here.
This one is a diptych about being an artist and having a job and a family, and trying.
Or give this one a go — about storytelling and reading and the women who raise us.
Your turn!
I’d love to hear from you in the comments, whether a particular piece brought something up for you, perhaps a question, or maybe a certain line jumped out. I always enjoy talking about craft so feel free to drop those sorts of comments as well.
The best way to support my work is to subscribe and read it! Also to leave comments or share/restack my posts, and click the heart whenever you feel so inclined. Thank you again for giving my writing a look!
